| Smooth and secure migration from ADABAS to Oracle |
The Situation:
Steinbruchs Accident Insurance serves around 150,000 employees at approximately 5,500
companies in the construction material industry, and it’s getting some comprehensive IT support
while doing so: More than 18,000 modules with over 1.3 million lines of code form the technical
core of the statutory insurance’s business processes. The applications operate under BS2000
with the ADABAS C database from Software AG. In order to be prepared for new tasks and challenges, the path to a technologically more open IT world was paved according to the motto “security comes first!” |
The Solution:
The perfectly equilibrated balancing act between continuity and modifi cation was made possible by the intelligent middleware SmartDCI®: data was migrated from ADABAS C to Oracle; applications remained unchanged. Today the SmartDCI® software takes on the role of mediating between the Natural application (still running under BS2000) and the new Oracle database (now under Solaris), thus overcoming heterogeneous platform limitations. And it does all this without changing even one single line of code. A sophisticated fallback and phase concept provides the transition to a new world with additional security. |
