NUR DIE Hosiery

... always looks great. By porting from VSE to Intel Linux and migrating from
Adabas to Oracle, NUR DIE is cutting its IT costs by more than 30% a year

The Situation:
Despite globalization and rising energy prices, German textile and apparel corporations are still among the world’s leading companies. And NUR DIE from Rheine is one of them: with its brand names “NUR DIE,” “Bellinda,” “elbeo” and “edoo,” the Westphalian company is the largest German supplier of hosiery and underwear, and NUR DIE is the most well-known and top-selling pantyhose brand in Germany. A high degree of specialization, fl exible adaptation to the
market, consistent innovation and modernization have secured the company’s success on the German market. Yet the cost pressure is high and it also got its grip on the head of the IT department a long time ago. Now more than ever, they have to make an active contribution
to corporate success, but at the same time, the budget they have at their disposal is diminishing.
The Solution:
After more than 30 years of VSE, the plug was pulled on the mainframe, which was replaced by an Intel computer running Linux. The operative core applications, which had been developed with COBOL and Natural for the Adabas database, comprise all of the company’s relevant business areas: master data administration, production, warehouse and sales. They were ported to Linux and the Adabas database was replaced by Oracle.
NUR DIE
The Result:
NUR DIE has cut its annual IT costs by more than 30%. The project was written off in its second year already. Despite the database switch, the applications did not have to be modifi ed and
the large number of proprietary developments the company could not afford to forgo were able
to be kept. Based on a relational database, they are now more modern than ever.
The Customer:
“What we accomplished here together is really impressive and the fi gures are considerable:
we even outdid our previously calculated savings estimate and had not one minute of downtime in our core applications. We’re in a good position for the future now.“
