| The special application JET TRAVEL owns the pole position in the tourism sector. This complete solution package for tour operators and travel agencies offers a software program for all travel sectors such as operators (flight, bus, railway), incoming and retailer (travel agencies, business service). JET TRAVEL specifically meets the standard and special requirements of the travel sector. |
| In the beginning there were the two software packages, TravelSoft and Tos; both had a leading status in the Austrian market. TravelSoft, an AS/400 application, Tos the counterpart on UNIX. Then the marketplace started to change and new customers began asking for a NT solution. In order to obtain a multi-platform solution and at the same time a uniform product, Data Systems made the critical decision to merge both product lines under Windows NT. The AS/400 application, TravelSoft, was to be migrated into Windows NT and features of the UNIX application, Tos, were to be integrated. |
| This project of migration and then integration was originally to be performed by the development department of Data Systems. However, problems were time and resources. Data Systems wanted to maintain a market leadership position without threatening it by draining valuable development resources through a long-term development project. Therefore, this plan finally had to be cancelled and Data Systems started looking for an adequate partner for supporting this task and contacted PKS. |
After initial discussions, a representative subset of the TravelSoft application was extracted,
migrated through PKS and the fundamental possibility of this undertaking proved. In May 98,
a detailed analysis of the complete application was made.
A project team consisting of DSA and PKS specialists agreed upon extensions of the AX/ware
migration tools and necessary changes of the TravelSoft source code. In June 98 the project
started with a detailed prototype and the complete conversion. After only 3 months the
application was installed under Windows NT. JET TRAVEL was created - and replaced the other
products. |
| Through this migration, JET TRAVEL got valuable additional features such as: |
 an Internet module was included through AX/ware which allows an integration of ASP
scripts and dataqueues
an extended printing controlling resulted in universal applicable printer modules
new AX/ware graphical interface was revised and adapted according to the customer needs.

Also the general co-operation was very positive. Mrs. Gabriela Schlesinger, development manager at Data Systems said: "PKS was very efficient and easy to work with. They understood the scope of the project and completed all tasks in a timely and professional manner." The new software is very well accepted and new customers are eager since it is now NT based
and integrated. By the end of 2003 Data Systems will not actively support the AS/400 application
any longer. A complete change to Windows NT is planned. Said Mrs. Schlesinger: " For new
customers it is better to be on NT. Access to the "open world" is given and the features of AX/ware are an excellent addition!" |
