Server Builder 400

Server Builder 400 unchains you from the constraints of the 5250 data stream. All RPG and Cobol programs are transformed into real server applications that can communicate with different types of clients via the XML standard.

Lower System Costs by "Serverizing" Applications
The Problem

The acquisition costs for System i are much higher than a comparable Windows, UNIX or Linux system and are only amortizable through its less inexpensive operation. Controlling or management in particular might therefore find System i questionable.
To make the cost of System i more attractive for modern software from the world of Windows, UNIX or Linux, IBM has introduced Standard and Value Editions of System i. Most notably, these versions offer no or only very little interactive performance.  Normal green screen applications cannot run permanently on these economical machines.

The Solution
Using automated tools, the existing application is "serverized," which means that formerly interactive programs can now be run in the batch subsystem and no longer require interactive performance. Such serverized applications run with maximum performance in the inexpensive System i Standard and Value Editions. You can also opt to link the serverization with the creation of a graphical user interface.
Procedure
MExperimental implementation of serverization of entire application (2-3 days)
MOptional definition of a style guide for the description of a GUI and detailed cost estimate
MServerization (5-15 days)
MOptional implementation of GUI project (1-6 months)

Universal Client

The Universal Client consists of a well-balanced range of various clients for the web, Windows and the green screen, all of which can communicate via the XML standard with migrated apps in Windows, Linux or Unix, as well as the original RPG and Cobol programs in System i.
